Games We Expect For The Next-Gen

We look at what series’ will most likely add a new addition  to the next-gen Xbox and PlayStation.

Bioshock 4

With the release of Bioshock: Infinite coming next month with a whole new world and character, plus the success of Bioshock 1 & 2, it’s inevitable that Bioshock will launch on the next-gen. Where it will be set is anyone’s guess, especially with the ending of Bioshock 2. Maybe more of a between Bioshock 1 & 2, if it even returns to Rapture. The only thing that is certain for now is that it will be as incredible as it’s predecessors with a highly engaging single-player but not so engaging multiplayer, hence the multiplayer component being cut from Infinite.

Battlefield 4

EA have already confirmed that Battlefield 4 will launch next year, with the president of EA, Frank  Gibeau saying “We’ve already talked a little bit about that we have a Battlefield title coming next year , but we’re not in a position right now to talk about our development plans and our SKU plan long term…That will come in about 90 days when we get to show you some Battlefield stuff.” This would put an announcement on May 1st. A beta was included in Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Battlefield 4 might not be met with the reception that is expected as many fans of the franchise expected a new Bad Company game, as well as considering many will only get 18 months worth of Battlefield Premium.

Red Dead (Rebellion?)

Following the massive success of Rockstar’s 2010 third-person shooter set at the end of the Wild West era. A sequel has already been confirmed, but in typical Rockstar style they tend to take a long time to come out. Hopefully the series doesn’t move to far into the modern setting like Ubisoft’s Call of Juarez: The Cartel. Speculation has many thinking it will be a prequel, set a decade before Revolver. The announcement will definitely not be at any E3… ever, but whatever way Rockstar see fit, most likely on their website.

Assassins Creed 4

Assassins Creed 4 was announced last week by Yves Guillemot at Ubisofts earnings report. Guillemot said “We are delighted and proud to announce today that in financial year ’14, we will introduce an all-new Assassin’s Creed hero, within an all new team and time period, and we expect it to be another major leap forward for the franchise”. Although we don’t know where it is set, many believe it could be to do with the First Civilization, as made clear by something Shaun says towards the end of AC3.

Skate 4

This one is a most definite. The Skate series has been a huge success for EA, with the original outselling it’s main competitor, Tony Hawk, almost 2 to 1. With each title getting better and better, creating a bigger focus on multiplayer as well as player created content, so with Skate 4 it could be as amazing as Forge Mode from the Halo series. With the creators, EA Black Box, having last worked on 2011’s Need For Speed: The Run, so they definitely have something big up their sleeve. Our money is on Skate 4.

Dishonored 2

2012’s wildcard from Bethesda was magnificent. It brought Assassins Creed and Bioshock together, to which they jelled perfectly. It was something new and different, with a choice of “go crazy with weapons” or “take it easy and use your powers to slowly get around enemies”. Maybe in its sequel they might add a multiplayer component. Oh, and amp up the gore. Looking at a 2014 E3 announcement.
